Someone Tried To Stop Me From Seeing The Jesus Revolution Movie, But I Made It!

On Saturday, I felt an urgent desire to go see Jesus Revolution, but something tried to get in my way.

I left early and took the train. I had to get off the train downtown because it couldn’t take me all the way to my destination due to some issue. Very unusual, but I decided to revise my plans.

Because it was so early, I decided to get some breakfast, and when I finished eating I figured I would walk right across the street to the Regal Cinema. Wrong.

I looked up Jesus Revolution on Regal’s website, but there were no results. It wasn’t playing at all in that theater. Very odd given what a big deal the Jesus Revolution movie is.

I found out the movie was playing in the next town over at 10:45 a.m., so I walked one block down the street to catch a bus that was to leave at 9:20. When I arrived at the stop, the bus was there and waiting even though I was ten minutes early. I thought this is great! Wrong again.

After waiting almost 35 minutes, the bus driver came and said there was some big event and the streets were blocked. He said, to take the train a few stops and get off – another bus would be waiting.

What? I had questions. Are you serious? What about alternative routes? They never completely stop service. I never heard of such. I kept my questions to myself, and once again, revised my plans.

At this point, it felt like somebody didn’t want me to see this movie.

I rushed to get to the next town over. I didn’t have much time before the movie would start.

I made it to the AMC theater at 10:20. I was so happy! That was nothing but God. It seemed there was no way I would have made it in time.

There was no one in sight nor was there anyone at the ticket window. It was a bit eerie. It felt like the rapture had taken place. 🥺

I rushed to the kiosk. I answered every question it asked me, picked my seat, and swiped my card. The screen didn’t move. I inserted my card into the chip reader. Nothing happened.

I ran up the escalator to the concession stand and asked the young man at the counter, where I could buy a ticket. He said he could do it for me. What in the world? LOL! I guess I need to go to the movies more often because I missed this memo. They’re selling tickets with your snacks now.

I ordered my ticket and a small bag of popcorn because it just seemed right. I was at the movies after all. 🤷🏾 The same card I tried to use at the kiosk miraculously worked upstares.

Finally, I had my ticket in hand and rushed around the corner to show the host/greeter person. She was a cute little elderly lady who gave me a five-minute dissertation about how even though the ticket was on the end of the receipt, it was in fact a ticket. She said most people just don’t get it. I could tell she was disturbed about that. LOL! Then she tore the ticket from my receipt but held on to it while she continued her dissertation telling me to hold on to my ticket and put it in a safe place, so I could freely go in and out of the theater. She then told me several times what theater to go in and my seat number. I smiled the whole time holding in my laughter as I kept watching her and my ticket as she wielded it in the air talking with much excitement.

She eventually handed me my ticket. I laughed when I got in the theater at 10:40 and there was no one else in there (too early in the morning for that town I’m sure). I praised the Lord for that. 🙌🏾

I realized the host spent so much time with me because I probably was the first interaction she had that day.

I eagerly waited for the movie to start. I sat through what seemed like a million previews. There was only one I was curious about and that was Come Out in Jesus’ Name.

I was getting a little impatient when it was past eleven. I ran down the steps to go ask the greeter what time Jesus Revolution would start. As soon as I got to the bottom of the steps, the movie started. Don’t judge me. It was 11:04. 😂

The movie was really good and so worth all the drama that proceeded it.

I don’t want to give anything away but do encourage you to go see it and support the Christian creators that had any part in the Jesus Revolution movie. We need more of this. (Keep reading for highlights of the movie below.)

Because I was the only one in the theater, I was able to cry freely, and praise the Lord out loud, and I even began talking to the Lord telling Him, “I want more of you, Jesus. I want to be truly alive in Christ!’ (Yes, I’m one of those. I actually talk to Jesus out loud.)

This was a movie I can say that all the actors did a great job.
A quote from Kay Smith that I took away from the movie is “The truth is always quiet. It’s the lies that are loud.”
Questioning the powerfulness of the Jesus Movement, Greg Laurie asked, “What if it’s good for a minute and then it’s gone?” He didn’t know at that time, that Jesus never leaves us, but with his current powerful ministry, you can see he knows it now.

“… for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” ~ Hebrews 13:5

There was a Time Magazine journalist who followed the Jesus Movement. He wrote an article, The Jesus Revolution (June 21, 1971). His name was Josiah. I had no clue it was Devon Franklin who played the part until it was over. Josiah looked nothing like Devon. What a great disguise.

Don’t let the fact that I was the only one in the theater fool you. This article, Jesus Revolution Passes $40 Million to Become Lionsgate’s Highest-Grossing Film Since 2019, will prove that my being the only one was an anomaly.

“The numbers are incredible, especially coming out of a pandemic,” producer Kevin Downes told Christian Headlines, adding that the faith audience has made a statement by coming out “in droves.”

The moral of this story is to tell you to go see Jesus Revolution of course. The second moral of this story is nothing can stop God! No train, no bus, no kiosk, no chip reader, no movie theater host, and no delayed starts.

When something tries to stop you from doing what God lays on your heart to do, be persistent. Laugh through it and keep pushing until you reach your destination.
